Warts / Verrucae

verrucae also known also as planter wart on female foot Verrucae or planter warts are caused by Human Papiloma Virus (HPV) which infect the skin. They are not always painful. There are no roots. There are no Male or Female viruses. Black dots may not be present. There are many treatment options including Saliva, Lemon oil/ juice, vinegar, banana skin, garlic, homeopathic treatments, chemicals, freezing, all of which can take several months to be effective. Electrosurgery is a much more rapid treatment. (see Electrosurgery for more details)

Ingrown toenails (Onychocryptosis)

A painful condition where the nail grows into the flesh. A temporary resolution to this may be possible without the need for a Local Anaesthetic injection. Permanent cures are available. (See toenail surgery)

Corns and Callous (Hyperkeratosis)

image of corn and callus on foot These are not infections. There are no roots. They are areas of thickened/ hard skin often due to pressure, friction or medical conditions. Corns can be removed and callous reduced painlessly.

Athlete's foot

A term used to describe infection of the skin and nails. The infection may be a fungus, yeast, bacteria or mould Fungal infections are probably the most common and can be treated with chemicals/ creams from the pharmacist. They can easily be confused with skin complaints such as eczema, psoriasis or soft corns.

Sweaty feet (Hyperhidrosis)

The exact cause or causes of hyperhidrosis are unknown. It appears to be due to overactivity of the body temperature centre in the brain (the hypothalamus) or of the nerves that control the sweat glands. Primary hyperhidrosis first appears in childhood or adolescence. Some people with this condition can develop pitted keratolysis which is due to a bacterial infection.

Dry skin conditions / Fissures

heel fissure This may be due to skin infections, medical conditions, medication or simply because it?s some time since you were 21.

Thickened toe nails (Onychogryphosis)

This can be due to trauma, ill fitting footwear, medical conditions and again because you?re not 21 anymore. Our Master spray device will reduce thickened nails. This is a painless procedure, requiring no anaesthetic and is generally carried out in a 30 min appointment. This device can be likened to an electric nail file.

Fungal nails (Onychomycosis)

fungal nail Commonly known as fungal nail infections, the infection can be due to Fungal spores (dermatophytes), but also Yeast or Moulds (non-dermatophyte). Treatment of onychomycosis is difficult because the infection is embedded within the nail and is difficult to reach. As a result full removal of symptoms is very slow and may take a year or more. Treatments can be applied to the nail or taken in tablet form.
